How to get to Kangaroo Island

A ferry leaving from the town of Cape Jervis, 90 minutes from Adelaide, departs daily to the town of Penneshaw, Kangaroo Island. There is also the option to fly directly into Kangaroo Island, however that is going to cost you an arm and a leg. We recommend taking a guided tour over to Kangaroo Island, as it is actually quite large and there is so much to see and do. Check out the Seal Bay Conservation Park on the south coast of the island, this is the only place in the world where you can be amongst the critically endangered Australian sea lion. The Remarkable Rocks are one of the most notable attractions on Kangaroo Island and you have to see them for yourself. It is a collection of orange granite boulders that have been shaped by millions of years of the elements. The Admirals Arch is another popular attraction to admire. It is a stalactite rock bridge that has been carved out by the many years of rough oceans.

Kangaroo Island is known for its abundance of native Australian wildlife. Keep an eye out for some peculiar creatures as you are hiking through the virtually untouched lands of the island. You may see the rare, but adorable short-beaked echidna, wallabies, kangaroos, koalas, and even a huge goanna. Not only are there tonnes of wildlife on land, but Kangaroo Island is also known for its spectacular marine life, that can be spotted swimming around the oceans of the island. Chances are you will see seals, whales, dolphins, and several species of fish if you head out on the seas of Kangaroo Island.  

Average cost to visit Kangaroo Island

Like anything, the prices to get to Kangaroo Island definitely do very. The ferry across from Cape Jervis will set you back $147 per person return, and that includes a vehicle as well. If you wish to join a guided tour, you are looking to spend around $300 for a day trip, and $500 for an overnight tour.
