Mindil Beach
What is cheaper than a trip to the beach? Completely free, simply spend the day hopping in and out of the surf and soaking up the Darwin sunshine! Darwin is a peninsular city, so there are a number of fantastic beach spots around. But Mindil Beach is by far the most popular, being one of the biggest and most central regions to visit. Due to stinger season, however, swimming is not advised for all months of the year, but the stretch of sand is still open for beach cricket, volleyball, and snoozing!
Mindl Beach Markets
After you’ve spent the day getting burnt in the seas, wander to the nearby markets which are being set up alongside the beaches grass region. Open for all visitors every Thursday and Sunday, the markets are filled to the brim with exciting stalls offering a range of goodies. Hunt for some secondhand fashion goods, search for the best souvenirs around, or simply grab some dinner at the collection of food stalls. You don’t even to buy anything to enjoy the ambience of the Mindl Beach Markets, as the bustling crowds and entertainment on a show for all. Live music, fire spinners, and fantastic dancers all line the grassy regions, so you can stand or sit a bit away and enjoy the entertainment as you munch down on your pick of cuisine and drink.
Litchfield National Park
No trip to Darwin is complete without a visit to the nearby bushland of Litchfield National Park. Featuring astonishing natural wonders, from cascading waterfalls to ancient rock formations, to some of the best lookout points around. If you are after a cheaper journey here, simply drive out yourself, following the maps and informational signs posted about to see the swimming spots unique wildlife dotted about!
City Walk
Darwin is chock-a-block with exceptional tourist site, with historic buildings, fantastic tourist spots, and much more scattered about! One way to see a large majority of these attractions is via the city walk. A path that a few historic gems, nestled at Lyons Cottage, also known as British Australian Telegraph House. It is the only remaining colonial bungalow building in the city, with the path leading you to many more fantastic spots about!
